Test Methods / Procedures
- Chamber Pre-heating: The chamber and radiant panel are heated until the black-body temperature stabilizes.
- Loading: The specimen is slid into the chamber and pre-heated for a specified duration (typically 2 minutes) with the pilot burner in the “off” position.
- Ignition: The stainless steel pilot burner is moved into position to ignite the specimen at the high-flux end.
- Observation: The test continues for 30 minutes (or until flame-out). Technicians record:
- Flame Spread Distance: The maximum distance the flame travels along the specimen.
- Time to Ignition: The duration until sustained flaming is observed.
- Smoke Evolution: Continuous monitoring of smoke density via the DIN 50055 optical system.
